A teenage pedestrian who was struck while crossing Dundas Street in Whitby late Thursday night has died.

His friend, another man in his late teens, remains in hospital where he is undergoing emergency treatment in Toronto, according to Durham Regional Police. He is listed in critical condition.

Insp. Adam Kelly told CP24 the men were crossing Dundas Street  near Pine Street when they were struck by a vehicle heading east.

The driver remained on the scene and police are still trying to determine if winter weather was responsible for the crash. Police have yet to lay charges, Kelly said.

The men – both identified as Whitby residents -- are believed to be 18 and 19 years old.
