A woman is dead after being struck and pinned underneath a Brampton Transit bus Monday morning.

The woman, who police say is 30 years old, was struck in the area of Finch Avenue and Humberline Drive just before 6 a.m. as she crossed the street from the south side towards the north end.

Emergency officials had a hard time freeing the woman from underneath the bus. She died at the scene from her injuries.

Police have not publicly released her name but say the woman was a newlywed who recently moved here from India.

It was raining when the collision occurred. Police are still trying to figure out whether the slick roads were a factor in the accident but charges against the driver are expected.

Several collisions were reported across the Greater Toronto Area overnight as rain continued to drench most of southern Ontario.

Earlier this morning, a driver crashed into a pole near the York University campus on Keele Street at Murray Ross. TTC buses were forced to divert around the area for a short while.

As well, one person was sent to hospital with minor injuries after a vehicle crashed into a pole at Eglinton and Kipling. Police forced traffic away from the area as they conducted an investigation.
