A New Zealand man is garnering international attention for overlooking a religious protocol in order to help an injured child.

Harman Singh, of Auckland, New Zealand, was photographed after removing his turban to help stop the bleeding of a six-year-old’s head after he had been struck by a vehicle.

Removing a turban in the Sikh religion is typically done in private.

Speaking with CP24 Monday night, Singh said removing the head covering was a spur-of-the-moment reaction.

“My heart says (to remove the turban) and I do it,” he said.

A photograph that captured Singh and others helping the child quickly spread through social media. Some have offered financial assistance to Singh.

“I can’t expect anything in my life, but I’m on top of the world right now,” Singh said of the response he has received.

The boy continues to recover from his injuries.
