A year-long investigation that came to light last week in a series of pre-dawn raids resulted in dozens of arrests and more than 200 charges, Toronto police said in a release issued Monday afternoon.

Forty-four people were arrested as part of Project Traveller which was launched in June 2012 targeting an alleged criminal organization operating in Toronto, Windsor and Edmonton, police said.

The operation focused on the alleged criminal activities of a group known as the Dixon City Bloods, or Dixon Goonies, centred in and around a group of high-rise apartment complexes located on Dixon Road.

On Thursday morning, a total of 42 tactical teams from 17 law enforcement agencies executed 83 search warrants.

The raids resulted in the seizure of more than 175,000 grams of drugs, $570,000 in cash, 42 firearms, a Taser and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, police said in the release.

Charges against the accused include offences such as participation in a criminal organization, firearms trafficking, drug trafficking and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Additionally, nine people were arrested prior to June 13 in connection with the investigation and are currently awaiting transfer to Toronto where they face additional charges, police said.

Their names are being withheld until their arrival in the city.

The names of the 10 suspects still sought in connection with Project Traveller were not provided by police in Monday’s release.

Ford connection

One of the buildings targeted in last week’s raids was 320 Dixon Rd., where an alleged cellphone video of Mayor Rob Ford smoking from a glass pipe was reportedly stored at one time.

The building was at one time also home to Toronto homicide victim Anthony Smith, who was pictured in an alleged photo of the mayor and a group of men. The photo was circulated with reports of the alleged video.

It is also the building where two Toronto Star reporters say they watched the alleged video after they were contacted and asked if they would purchase it.

The alleged video has not surfaced, nor has its authenticity been substantiated by CP24.

A search warrant executed at a house on Mercury Road belongs to 19-year-old Muhammad Khattak, who is one of the young men pictured in the alleged photo of Ford, sources told CP24 crime specialist Sue Sgambati last week.

Khattak is charged with participation in a criminal organization and trafficking in marijuana under $5,000 in connection with the Project Traveller investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
