TTC riders will no longer be able to use adult tickets as of today, as the fares are phased out in order to cut back on counterfeiting. Student and Senior tickets will still be sold and accepted, however.

Tickets accounted for 15 per cent of fares in 2007. However, the use of counterfeit tickets has risen, resulting in a loss of $4 million annually in revenue.

A TTC collector at the Wilson subway station ticket booth was arrested and charged in June for allegedly possessing and selling forged adult tickets.

Riders will have until the end of October to exchange their adult tickets for tokens at two locations.

They can be exchanged from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bloor and Yonge station and between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Metropass Discount Plan office at 1900 Yonge St. (street level at Davisville Station).
