MANAMA, Bahrain - Bahrain's state airline says its Facebook page has been hacked and the Gulf nation's Internet crime division is investigating.
Gulf Air says in a statement that the site was defaced Monday for "political purposes," but gave no further details.
Social media posts claim that the carrier's logo was replaced by an image of jailed activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who has been on a hunger strike for two months. On Sunday, Bahrain's top judicial panel rejected a request by Denmark to gain custody of al-Khawaja, who is also a Danish citizen.
Al-Khawaja and seven other leading opposition figures were sentenced to life in prison last year for anti-state crimes linked to ongoing anti-government protests by Bahrain's Shiite majority.
