OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says annual inflation took a big leap forward for the second straight month in November to one per cent from 0.1 per cent in October.

The 0.9-per-cent increase in the rate last month follows a full point advance in October.

The agency says a 14.1 per-cent increase in gasoline prices this year relative to last year's dip at this time was the main contributor to overall higher prices.

On a month-to-month comparison, prices rose 0.5 per cent in November from what they were the previous month.

Statistics Canada says prices rose on an annual basis in seven of the eight major components tracked by the agency, and in all provinces.
