TORONTO - Stage and screen star Bette Midler has joined the producing team of "Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical."

The outrageous theatre show made its North American premiere in Toronto earlier this week.

"Priscilla" officially opens Oct. 26 and runs for 12 weeks before moving to Broadway in spring 2011.

The musical centres on three drag queens who go on a road trip across the Australian outback in search of love and friendship.

It's based on the Oscar-winning film, "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."

Midler made her Broadway debut in "Fiddler on the Roof," and her many film roles include iconic turns in "The Rose," "Beaches," and "Down and Out in Beverly Hills."
