Heavy snow has forced Blackburn to call off the first leg of its Carling Cup semifinal against Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

Despite the pitch being playable, the decision was made because of concerns about public safety with some roads around Ewood Park inaccessible.

Manchester City is due to host Manchester United in the other semifinal on Wednesday, but the club said the match "is at risk of postponement" because of the extreme weather conditions.

Everton also cancelled a news conference at Everton to mark the start of Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan's three-month loan spell.

However, Stoke said it was "confident" of hosting Fulham in Tuesday's only Premier League match after working to clear roads around the stadium of snow and ice.
