A Brampton firefighter is dead following a serious crash in Caledon Friday afternoon.

The two-vehicle crash happened on Hurontario Street between Boston Mills Road and King Street at around 4:15 p.m.

The man, identified by police as 50-year-old Howard Hughes, of Orangeville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services Fire Chief Andy MacDonald confirmed that Hughes was a member of the organization Friday night.

Hughes was on his way to work at the time of the crash, MacDonald said.

The driver of the second vehicle, also a male, is currently in hospital in stable condition.
