TORONTO - Michael Buble has already been honoured by Grammy and performed on the Olympic stage this year -- on Wednesday, the Juno Awards completed the hat trick.

The Vancouver crooner scored a leading six nominations as this year's Juno contenders were announced.

Rockers Billy Talent, rapper Drake and country singer Johnny Reid all landed four nominations apiece for the show, which is set for April 18 in St. John's, N.L.

Teen sensation Justin Bieber, Toronto hip-hop artist K'naan, Nanaimo, B.C., crooner Diana Krall and the Tragically Hip were among the artists to receive three nominations.

Buble, Drake and Justin Bieber will be among the performers while Bryan Adams will receive a humanitarian award and April Wine will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Buble will compete for the Juno fan choice award, single of the year for "Haven't Met You Yet," album of the year for his international hit "Crazy Love," artist of the year, songwriter of the year and pop album of the year.

"Crazy Love" also landed producers Bob Rock and David Foster a nomination each in the producer of the year category.

The Juno frenzy comes a few months after Buble picked up his second career Grammy -- for best traditional pop vocal album -- and mere days after he took the stage at the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver Games.

While Buble is already a six-time Juno winner, this year's class also features its share of newbies, with 94 first-time nominees.

None of them are up for more trophies than Drake.

The 23-year-old from Toronto -- who also had two nominations at January's Grammy Awards -- is up here for single of the year ("Best I Ever Had"), new artist of the year, and has two nominations for rap recording of the year.

Rockers Billy Talent, from Mississauga, Ont., will compete for single of the year for "Rusted From The Rain," album of the year, group of the year and rock album of the year.

"We are overwhelmed and flattered to have been nominated," lead singer Ben Kowalewicz said through his publicist.

Finally, singer-songwriter Johnny Reid -- who was born in Scotland, raised in Toronto and now lives in Nashville -- is up for fan choice, album of the year, artist of the year and country album of the year.

Stereos are among that sizable cluster of first-time nominees.

The Edmonton quintet took nominations for pop album of the year and new group of the year, calling the honour "incredible."

And they said they hoped the Juno nominations would serve to further legitimize their career, which took off following their appearance on the MuchMusic reality show, "disBAND."

"There's a lot of the commercial aspect that is thrown onto our band ... but we get a lot of legitimacy attached to (these nominations)," said lead singer Pat Kordyback. "This isn't just the people you'd think would be into us, and that gives us a lot of confidence.

"Hopefully no one fails the drug test and we're still nominees. Can they revoke that?"

Toronto's Howie Beck looked a little stunned following his nomination for adult alternative album of the year.

"I'm pretty surprised," said Beck, who's up for his fourth album, "How to Fall Down in Public."

"When I was a kid, I used to watch the Junos all the time."

So, then, celebrations must be in order -- perhaps an evening of beer or bubbly?

"No, that's not me," he said. "I don't do that. Enjoy the moment? No. ... I'll be neurotic at home by myself."

Ryan Lenssen of Milton, Ont., indie-rock outfit the Most Serene Republic, meanwhile, was one of the few who admitted that he had suspicions that the band might be up for a trophy when they received an invitation to the nominations press conference.

In fact, he'd already told his parents that the band would likely be nominated (they're up for video of the year).

He hoped the news would help him gain some ground on his folks' newly minted hero -- Sidney Crosby.

"We were watching the gold-medal game (on the weekend), I'm 24 years old, and my dad goes, 'You know, (Crosby) is only 22 and he's won a Stanley Cup AND a gold medal,"' Lenssen explained.

"And up to that point, I didn't have anything. But now I have a Juno nomination."

There will be one change from the past two Juno shows.

According to Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences president Melanie Berry, comedian Russell Peters will not be back to host the show for a third straight year.

In fact, she said she didn't expect the Junos to opt for a single host this year at all, instead suggesting that this might be the year that they use some "special presenters" in the hopes of finding more time for live performances.

"Russell will not be hosting," she said. "We're thrilled, he did an amazing job for two years, but change is always good."
