A published report says a Toronto paramedic is departing Canada to bring aid to the flood-ravaged Philippines.

The Toronto Star is reporting that Rahul Singh will bring six water purification units with him to the Manila area, where floods have killed 240 people. Each unit can clean 64,000 litres of water a day.

The paramedic is part of GlobalMedic, a local charity that helps disaster-stricken areas with a team of 400 volunteers.

Manila, the country's capital, was hit with the worst flooding in 40 years on Saturday. Victims were rescued from rooftops and high walls. About 80 per cent of Metro Manila was still under water the day after.

The Canadian red Cross is also accepting donations to help those affected by the flooding.

Any donations to help victims can be dropped off at a Filipino community centre in Vaughan located at 7894 Dufferin St.
