A 12-year-old boy took his family’s vehicle for a joyride outside a Markham shopping plaza with his brother in the backseat Wednesday afternoon, according to police in York Region.
York Regional Police say the child was spotted behind the wheel of the vehicle in the parking lot of a mall located on Markham Road, just south of 14th Avenue, shortly after 3 p.m.
His three-year-old brother was also in the backseat at the time, police confirmed.
No injuries have been reported.
Police were alerted to the scene by witnesses who spotted the child in the car driving around the parking lot. Officers on the scene were able to quickly locate the kids’ mother.
There is currently no word if any charges are pending.
