The City of Toronto is ushering in 2011 by saying goodbye to the personal vehicle registration tax.

City Council voted 39 to 6 in favour of getting rid of the tax at its last meeting. It officially disappears on Saturday.

The change is not retroactive and the city says it will not make allowances for vehicle owners with late birthdays who paid their tax late in 2009.

The $60-per-car levy was imposed in September of 2008.

The move to get rid of it is being touted as Mayor Rob Ford's first major victory since taking office earlier this month.
