TORONTO - Toronto city councillors voted on dozens of proposed service cuts Tuesday after weeks of meetings, debates and protests.

Faced with a massive budget deficit, council voted to sell the Toronto Zoo as well as three city-owned theatres.

But a motion to introduce toll lanes on the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway did not pass.

Councillors voted down proposals to privatize the city's parking authority and decided to keep Riverdale Farm running, for now.

However, the city will stop giving homeowners four free garbage tags each year, which is expected to save $500,000 annually.

The tags allowed people to toss extra bags of garbage when they had too much trash to fit into city-issued bins.
