A 20-year-old man is dead and a second man is in hospital with serious injuries after a double shooting in an Etobicoke neighbourhood early Friday morning.

Toronto police said the victims were found on the front lawn of a home on Monet Avenue, near Rathburn Road and Highway 427, shortly after midnight.

Officers found the wounded men when they responded to a call about gunshots being heard on nearby Crendon Drive, police spokesman Const. Tony Vella said.

Both men were rushed to a hospital, where 20 year-old Nigel Caine died of his injuries. The second man, who is 19 years old, is in hospital with life-threatening inuries.

One victim was shot in the back, while the other was shot in the head, EMS officials said.

A gun was found near the homicide scene as police scoured the area for clues, leaving investigators to figure out who the firearm belongs to, CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry reported.

Investigators seeking vehicle

Police are also trying to identify a vehicle that may have been occupied by a suspect or suspects at the time of the shooting.

The newer silver vehicle, possibly an import, was last seen fleeing the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

Police haven't released any suspect information.

Homicide detectives are investigating.

The motive behind the shooting is unclear, Vella said.
