Drivetest employees have officially walked off the job.

Employees of Serco Inc., who work as driver examiners for the Ministry of Transportation, say they haven't been able to come to an agreement with their employer.

The dispute is over what the union calls unacceptable working conditions, dwindling hours and little job protection.

MTO offices are to be closed until the strike is over and driving tests will be postponed.

The work stoppage won't affect those who simply need to renew their licence without taking a test as they can still renew at Ontario Driver & Vehicle Licence Issuing Offices.

The Ministry of Transportation is automatically extending the validity of Drivers' Licenses that need a re-test.

This includes licenses for novice drivers, commercial drivers and drivers over 80-years-old.

The Driver's License related services affected by this strike include:

  • Written knowledge tests (Class A, B, C, D, E, F, G, M, and the "Z" endorsement)
  • Road tests (Class A, B, C, D, E, F, G, M, and the "Z" endorsement)
  • Vision tests
  • Tests required for licence reinstatement or collision (e.g. demerit point suspensions, 70+ drivers with an at-fault collision, etc.)
  • Driving instructor licence applications
  • Submission of medical reports to the Ministry of Transportation
  • Licence exchanges from other Canadian provinces and other countries.
