Toronto-based actor Mena Massoud has been cast to help recreate a whole new world in Disney’s live-action remake of “Aladdin.”

Disney announced the casting decision Saturday during D23 Expo – a major Disney fan convention in Anaheim.

The film will also star Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Will Smith as Genie, Disney said. It will be directed by Guy Ritchie.

Massoud is best-known for his small-screen roles on “Jack Ryan” and “Saving Hope.”

Responding to the announcement on social media Saturday, Massoud said he’s eager to get to work on the film.

“So honored & grateful for the opportunity to help bring this magical story to life once again. Let's get to work! #Aladdin #Disney,” the actor tweeted.

The Aladdin remake follows a successful live-action retelling of “Beauty and the Beast” released earlier this year.

Disney’s animated version of “Aladdin” hit theatres in 1992 and was a major box-office success. The film starred the voice talents of Scott Weinger as Aladdin, Linda Larkin as Jasmine and Robin Williams as Genie.
