TORONTO -- Sony says it sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of Dec. 28, with sales of almost 10 million games for the new platform.

Microsoft, meanwhile, reports sales of more than three million Xbox One consoles in 13 countries as of the end of 2013.

The PlayStation 4 is now available in 53 countries and territories globally.

The PS4 launched on Nov. 15, a week ahead of the Xbox One.

Sony's platform retails at $399, $100 less than its competitor.
