NEW YORK - Facebook says it has disabled a feature that let users share their address and phone number with external websites and applications after criticism from security experts.
Facebook said in a blog post Tuesday it is making changes to the feature to ensure that users only share information when they want to.
Users, for example, could share their address with applications such as shopping websites for easier access.
Over the weekend, Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at security firm Sophos, warned that rogue applications that post spam or collect cellphone numbers to make unwanted calls could gather users' data.
Facebook now says it is listening to the feedback and will disable the sharing feature until it makes the changes.
It did not say what the changes will be.
