A report prepared by York University's senate is advising that classes will not resume this year for the first semester if a resolution is not reached by next Monday.

However, according the union representing the striking teaching assistants this does not mean the fall semester will be lost.

Instead, the winter term, which is scheduled to begin on January 5, would be delayed until students finish their first semester.

Students at Canada's third-largest university have been out of class for more than four weeks.

Up to 3,300 teaching assistants, contract faculty members, and graduate researchers walked off the job on November 6 to back contract demands.
