A stolen van investigation has become a stolen dog case after a vehicle containing a 14-year-old German shepherd was taken from a downtown parking spot.

The dog, named Lady, was left inside an unlocked blue 2001 Ford Econoline van while her owner, David Bell, made a delivery inside First Canadian Place on Tuesday. When he returned at about 9:30 a.m., the van and the dog were gone.

Bell says he and his daughter are desperate to have the dog back and haven't been able to sleep since she was stolen. He is appealing with the thief to let her go or give her back.

"I care not for the vehicle," he says. "She is our family pet but she is my best friend. Let her out... There are times when the right and noble thing can be done and I appeal to you to do that."

The dog is described as very approachable and friendly, and the van's license plate number is AYCV 855.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
