Riding Profile: Toronto Centre
The Riding
Toronto-Centre is a federal riding that emcompasses distinctly different downtown neighbourhoods, including Rosedale, Regent Park, St. Jamestown, Cabbagetown, Church Wellesley Village, and even a portion of the financial district.
The Liberal Party has enjoyed immense success in the riding since 1993 and is considered a safe zone for the Grits, despite its roots as a Conservative stronghold. Today, the Liberal candidates’ competition tends to be members of the NDP.
A byelection was called for Nov. 25 after former interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae announced he was resigning from politics this past summer.
