TORONTO - Brian Burke is on the lookout for goalies.

The Toronto Maple Leafs GM needs to bring in at least one goaltender after a rash of injuries hit the organization in recent days.

"(We're) working on it," he said Thursday via email. "Need at least one, and maybe two."

The latest to go down was J.S. Giguere, who suffered a lower-body injury during Toronto's 2-1 win in Buffalo on Wednesday. The veteran battled groin injuries earlier in the season and wasn't sure if the ailment was related to his past.

"Right now it is minor," Giguere said after the game in Buffalo. "(But) if it's related to what I've had before this year it might be something a little bit more major. We'll see what's going to come out of it."

The Leafs were given the complete day off Thursday and Giguere was scheduled to visit a doctor.

It was just two weeks ago that the team seemed to have too many goaltenders. James Reimer, Jonas Gustavsson and Giguere were all with the Leafs while Ben Scrivens and Jussi Rynnas were splitting time with the American Hockey League's Marlies.

Shortly after Gustavsson was assigned to the AHL for a two-week conditioning stint, he had to pull himself from a Feb. 9 game with an elevated heart rate. The 26-year-old needed a third heart ablation surgery and was placed on injured reserve.

Soon after, Rynnas was sidelined for a month with a broken finger, leaving Scrivens as the team's only minor-league goalie. In fact, the Marlies signed Steve Christie from the University of Manitoba to an amateur tryout and he served as a backup during a pair of games against the Moose this week.

Needing someone to play behind Scrivens now that they've returned home, the Marlies are entering a stretch of four games in six days starting with a visit from Hamilton on Friday night.

The Maple Leafs return to action on Saturday against Ottawa.

Burke wasn't sure how long Giguere will be sidelined, but will likely need someone to back up Reimer for that game.

The 33-year-old Giguere is an unrestricted free agent this summer and had been anxious to finish the season on a high note. Those plans appear to be on hold.

"Yeah, (it's) frustrating," he said in Buffalo. "I thought I was kind of getting beyond the injury."
