ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- The city of St. John's, N.L., has been named by National Geographic as one of the world's Top 10 oceanfront cities.

The historic port city is No. 3 on the list, behind Tel Aviv in Israel and Tallinn in Estonia.

The magazine's website cites the city's icebergs and "whales that spout offshore."

National Geographic says the city has a frontier personality, but with Irish folk music floating from oceanfront bars, "it feels more like Dublin."

Also on the list: San Diego, California; Marseille, France; Perth and Brisbane Australia; and Durban, South African.
