Emergency crews responded to a multi-car crash on one of the main roads to Peterborough Saturday morning.

According to Peterborough County OPP, officers received a call at around 8:50 a.m. for a multi-car crash on the southbound side of Highway 115 between Porter Road and Boundary Road.

Police say the incident started as a single-vehicle crash, but nearly nine cars piled into the first vehicle and each other due to limited visibility in fog conditions.

Four people were reportedly hospitalized as a precaution with minor injuries.

The southbound side of Highway 115 remained closed in the area as emergency crews continued working on the scene.

“Please drive cautiously and if visibility is limited, ensure your full lighting is on, slow down, and allow additional space between vehicles,” said the OPP in a news release. “We appreciate your cooperation.”

The area has since reopened.
