MONTREAL — Spring flood conditions have put 164 homes at risk of flooding and led to the closure of 41 streets in In Gatineau, Que., along the Ottawa River, as rising waters continue to impact neighbourhoods.
The city is among several communities in Quebec and Ontario where renewed rain forecasts are raising concern in flood-prone areas already dealing with washouts, bridge closures and rising waterways.
During a press briefing in Gatineau earlier today, Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette said firefighters went door-to-door overnight to warn residents in homes at risk of flooding.
Gatineau civil security director Denis Doucet said levels are expected to peak Monday before beginning to stabilize by the weekend.
However, Doucet also said the region could remain at risk for at least two more weeks.
Officials in Montreal said Friday that water levels on the Outaouais and des Prairies rivers were rising and may spill their banks in the coming days.
