Toronto will see near-freezing temperatures tonight, prompting Environment Canada to issue a yellow-warning frost advisory for the city and much of the surrounding area.
The national weather agency says cold temperatures will continue early Friday morning, and warned that damage to plants, trees, and crops is possible.
Thursday’s alert covers most of the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughan, Pickering, and Oshawa.
The mercury is expected to drop to 1 C tonight after reaching a high of just 11 C this afternoon. The high will remain at 11 C Friday and drop to 10 C Saturday amid a risk of showers on each day.
“It’s a struggle to find warmer days on the horizon. So, keep the umbrellas and thicker spring jackets close at hand for the next 7-10 days,” CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter said.
Temperatures should climb back into the seasonable range for early next week, but will only peak in the mid teens, according to Coulter.
Those hoping for spring-like warmth will have to wait until at least the second week of May.
