Police are searching for a suspect after an alleged armed carjacking in Pickering earlier this week.
Durham police say on Feb. 3 around 7:30 p.m., a man was driving westbound on Taunton Road toward Altona Road when he was rear-ended by another vehicle.
The man pulled over and was checking his vehicle for damage when the passenger in the other vehicle approached with a handgun and demanded the keys, police say.
The suspect got into the victim’s vehicle and fled westbound on Taunton along with the vehicle that caused the collision.
Police say the victim was not injured.
The suspect vehicle is described as a dark SUV with no front license plate.
The person who pointed the gun at the victim and stole his car is described by police as a Black man standing five-foot-nine with a slim build. They say he was wearing a baseball cap, medical mask, puffer jacket, cargo pants and shoes. All were black.
No description was given for the driver of the suspect vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham police or Crime Stoppers.
