Hate-motivated graffiti has been found inside a Whitby library for the third time in the last month.

Durham police say that an investigator attended the Whitby Central Library on Dundas Street near Brock Street on Jan. 28 to review video footage from the two previous incidents.

While at the library, police say that staff located a “swastika etched into the wall of the bathroom.”

Swastikas were also found on bathroom walls at the library on Jan. 10 and Jan. 28.

The Central Whitby Library said in a statement that they were deeply saddened and frustrated by the incidents.

“There is absolutely no room for hate or intolerance at the Whitby Public Library,” the library said. “We take pride in being a welcoming and inclusive community. These recent acts are completely at odds with our values of diversity and inclusion and serves as a distressing reminder that there is still much work to be done in our communities to combat hate.”

Police have not made any arrests in connection with the vandalism so far.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
