A man who was critically injured when he fell from his e-scooter in Ajax earlier this week has died in hospital, Durham police say.

The man was riding his Segway Ninebot Kick Scooter Max G2 on Kitney Drive, north of Clements Road West, on Tuesday afternoon when he lost control and hit his head as he fell, police said.

He was initially taken to a local hospital in life-threatening condition but was later airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre.

Police said the man did not have identification on him, and they had to ask for the public’s help in identifying him. After releasing images of the scooter and several of his clothing items, police were able to confirm his identity.

In an update on Friday, police said the man was pronounced dead in the hospital. They have not released his name.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 905-579-1520 ext. 5255 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
