An e-scooter rider is fighting for his life in hospital following a crash in Oshawa Sunday night, police say.

Durham police were called to the area of Albert Street and Athol Street East, north of Highway 401, at 7:15 p.m. for reports of a collision.

They said an electric scooter was travelling east on Athol Street when it crashed into a vehicle that was turning right onto Albert Street.

A 58-year-old man who was riding the e-scooter was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. He remains there in critical condition.

Police are investigating the crash, and say alcohol is “believed to be a factor,” but did not say to what extent. No charges or arrests have been laid at this time.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.
