Durham regional police have charged a man and a woman in connection with a human trafficking and sexual assault investigation involving a 15-year-old girl.

Investigators say the male suspect “approached the victim at a coffee shop” in the area of Jane Street and Avro Road in Vaughan, offering her “a ride home.”

Instead, police say he allegedly took her to multiple locations across the Greater Toronto Area, seized her phone, and brought her to his residence in Oshawa, where a female suspect was present.

“The male suspect sexually assaulted the victim and forced her to stay inside the residence,” police said. “The following day the victim was able to leave and returned home.”

On Thursday, members of the Durham Regional Police Human Trafficking Unit (HTU), with assistance from the York Regional Police HTU, Robbery Unit, and Project Attire Team, executed a search warrant at a residence near Arctic Red Drive and Secreto Drive in Oshawa.

Police say both suspects were arrested without incident.

As a result, 29-year-old Kimeron Kamal Grant of Oshawa is charged with several offences including procuring a person under 18, two counts of sexual assault on a person under 16 and two counts of sexual interference with a person under 16 among other offences.

21-year-old Desirae Bailey from Oshawa is also charged with one count of procuring a person under 18.

Both were held for a bail hearing.
