Durham police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into multiple homes and sexually assaulting women in Oshawa earlier this week.
According to a news release, officials says officers were called to the Simcoe Street South and Royal Street area at around 4:20 p.m. on Nov. 11 after reports that a man had entered several residences and “exposed himself” to residents.
Investigators say the suspect first entered one home and exposed himself before being startled by a dog and fleeing.
He then entered a second home on the same street, where police say he sexually assaulted the homeowner when she confronted him.
The suspect fled again, entering a third home near Simcoe and Fairbanks streets, where police say he sexually assaulted an older woman who was in bed before escaping through a window.
Police arrested the suspect a short time later without incident.
As a result, 28-year-old Mohamed Basil Lafir, of no fixed address, has been charged with multiple offences including break and enter, forcible confinement, and two counts of sexual assault, among other charges.
None of the charges have been tested in court but police say he was held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with additional information or surveillance footage is asked to contact police.
