Two seniors dead after SUV collides with tractor trailer in Beaverton

Two seniors are dead following a collision in Beaverton, Ont., on Wednesday night.

Durham Regional Police said they got a call about a small SUV colliding with a tractor trailer on Regional Road 15 between Simcoe Street and Thorah Side Road around 8 p.m.

The tractor was reversing into a private driveway with its trailer across the roadway when the SUV travelling east crashed into it, police said.

One passenger, a 71-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver, a 72-year-old man, and another passenger, an 88-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and were both taken to hospital. Police said the second passenger died shortly after.

Police said the driver of the tractor, a 44-year-old man, remained at the scene and co-operated with investigators.

The collision is under investigation.
