A woman was arrested for impaired driving after being involved in a collision while she was picking up her children from a nearby school in Whitby last week.

Durham Regional Police said they got a call shortly before 4 p.m. for a collision in the area of Fallingbrook Street and Fifewood Crescent, near Glen Dhu Public School.

A grey Kia sedan collided with a parked white Hyundai sedan, police said, noting that the vehicles were picking up their children.

When the driver of the Hyundai tried to talk to the driver of the Kia, she allegedly fled the area.

Police said witnesses told officers that the driver of the Kia appeared impaired.

No injuries were reported in the collision.

They later found the Kia at a nearby home, and the driver allegedly showed signs of impairment.

Police said the driver, a 32-year-old woman, was taken into custody and later completed two separate breath tests.

She registered 170 milligrams and 180 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, which is above the legal limit of 80 milligrams.

As a result, she has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – exceed, failure to remain at the accident, and dangerous operation.

Police said she was released on an undertaking.
