A man has been charged after allegedly pulling out a fake gun outside the emergency room of a hospital in Oshawa earlier this week.

Durham police said they got a call shortly after 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday for an armed person at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Two men were involved in a verbal altercation outside the entrance of the emergency department when one allegedly brandished a firearm and made threats.

The suspect then fled into the hospital, but responding officers later located and arrested him without incident following a search.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police said the suspect was found to be in possession of an imitation firearm. Officers also determined that the suspect, 46-year-old Lorne Fredrick McConnell, was bound by a weapons prohibition at the time.

He has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of weapons dangerous, failure to comply with a release order and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
