A man has been charged after an altercation at a church in Ajax ended in a stabbing that left another man seriously injured last week.
Durham Regional Police said they got a call shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday for an armed person at Christian Faith Outreach Centre on Harwood Avenue South, near Highway 401.
Officers learned that two men were having a verbal altercation when one brandished an edged weapon and stabbed the other, police said.
The victim was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
After the suspect was located and arrested, he was subsequently transported to a local-area hospital with minor injuries, police said.
In a news release on Tuesday, police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Patrick Bless Evboumwan of no fixed address.
He has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault, possession of weapon dangerous and failure to comply with a probation order.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
