A man who allegedly injured two police officers earlier this week in Durham Region is facing charges.
The incident happened on Wednesday at Durham Regional Police Service’s Central East Division, which is located at 77 Centre St. N. in Oshawa.
Investigators say at about 7 p.m. they responded to the parking lot of the police station after receiving an emergency alert for immediate assistance from other officers.
They say an unknown male had entered a police-only area of the property and approached and assaulted two on-duty officers.
Their officers, whose injuries are being described as “significant,” were taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening condition.
Police say the injured officers with the help of responding officers restrained the suspect and took him into custody after deploying a conducted energy weapon.
Mustafa Sadat, 25, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts each of assault cause bodily harm and assault police officer. He was held for a bail hearing.
The charges Sadat is facing have not been tested in court of law.
Police are asking anyone with cell phone, dashcam, surveillance footage, or further information about this incident to contact the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 1705, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
