Video shows suspect fire 16 shots at used car dealership in Whitby

Published:

Durham Regional Police have released security footage capturing a suspect firing 16 shots at a Whitby used car dealership.

Video shows the moment a suspect fired several gunshots at a used car dealership in Whitby earlier this week.

It happened on Wednesday at around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Hopkins Street and Dundas Street East.

In surveillance footage shared by Durham Regional Police, a suspect dressed in all black can be seen exiting a white Honda CR-V and running up the rubble before firing his gun.

A total of 16 shots ring out before the driver of the SUV honks at the armed suspect, signalling them to run back into the vehicle and drive away from the scene.

Police say there were no reported injuries. They did not say if anyone was at the car dealership at the time.

Police also did not provide any suspect descriptions.

In a social media post, DRPS Chief Peter Moreira called the incident a “brazen act of violence and a total disregard for public safety.”

Durham police are asking anyone with additional footage in the area to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
