An 87-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated assault after a female victim was criticially injured inside of a home in Ajax.

It happened on Thursday, shortly after 6:30 p.m., in the area of Keeble Crescent and Bennett Avenue.

Durham Regional Police said they were called to the area to assist with an ambulance call when they found a woman suffering from “traumatic injuries.”

The victim was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition, police say. They add that her condition has since been upgraded to serious, but stable.

Investigators determined another resident of the home allegedly assaulted the victim earlier on Thursday.

Police did not disclose the relationship, if any, between the suspect and victim. However, police did say they are withholding the accused’s identity to protect the victim.

In a news release, police said they charge the senior woman from Ajax with aggravated assault.

The charge has not been tested in court.
