24-year-old man dead after crash at Hwy. 401 and Hwy. 412

A 24-year-old passenger is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 412 in Whitby.

A 24-year-old man has now died following a single-vehicle crash on a Highway 412 ramp in Whitby early Sunday morning.

Ontario provincial police say emergency crews were initially called shortly after 4 a.m. to the area of Highway 401 and Highway 412 for reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle.

In a news release, police said the passenger was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators have not released any information about what may have led up to the crash.

As a result, Highway 412 southbound was previously closed at Dundas Street West but has since reopened following the investigation.

Drivers travelling through the area are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes where possible. Anyone with additional information is asked to come forward.
