Two Toronto residents have been charged after a man was ambushed and stabbed at a park in Scugog, Ont., last month.

Durham Regional Police said their investigation determined that on the evening of May 13, the victim was brought to a park near Water and Mary streets by a woman he knew.

The woman and a male suspect allegedly ambushed the victim while at the park.

Police said the male suspect then stabbed the victim multiple times and tried to get him into a vehicle.

The victim was able to defend himself, police said, and the suspects shortly fled.

Officers arrived and found the victim with serious injuries. He was subsequently taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition.

Police, in a news release on Monday, said the victim is now stable.

They also announced that the two suspects, identified as 36-year-old James Leigh Hastings and 51-year-old Shannon Lois Marjorie Khoe, were arrested without incident in Toronto last week.

They are facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and forcible confinement.

Hastings has also been charged with possession of dangerous weapon, failure to comply with a release order and breach of probation.
