Two men have been arrested and a quantity of drugs, along with a handgun, have been seized following an investigation into an armed home invasion in Ajax earlier this year.

On Feb. 3, officers were called to a residence in Ajax at about 3:30 a.m. after two armed suspects allegedly forced entry while carrying handguns.

Following an investigation, on June 18 officers from the Durham Regional Police Service, including members of the Tactical Response Unit, executed five search warrants in Toronto and Durham Region.

As a result, police arrested Wazir Fofilzeh, 29, of Mississauga, and Ahmed Ali, 30, of Oshawa.

During the searches, officers say they seized a firearm, two high-capacity magazines and several rounds of ammunition.

Police also seized quantities of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as a number of Schedule I pills.

The suspects are facing several charges including robbery with a firearm; possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking; possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; possession of a prohibited device or weapon (three counts); and possession of a restricted firearm, knowing possession is unauthorized, police said in a news release.

Police say Fofilzeh was under a weapons prohibition order and was not permitted to possess ammunition at the time of his arrest.

Both of the men were held for a bail hearing.
