A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed over a parking spot on Canada Day in Oshawa.

Police say a dispute over a parking spot in Oshawa, Ont., led to a stabbing that left a female seriously injured.

According to Durham police, the incident happened at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the area of Lakeview Park Avenue and Simcoe Street South.

Police allege that a 53-year-old woman was involved in a physical altercation with a male and female over a parking space. The 53-year-old, police said, brandished a knife before the male and female sprayed the woman with dog spray.

The 53-year-old then stabbed the female multiple times, police said.

The suspect fled the area but was later located and taken into custody, investigators confirmed.

The victim, police said, was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre in serious but stable condition.
