A 16-year-old boy is facing charges after allegedly “ramming” a police cruiser with a stolen vehicle in Ajax last month.

Durham Regional Police said they were on proactive patrol near Kingston and Westney roads on June 11. At around 1:35 a.m., they said they saw a Ford pick-up truck driving dangerously in a parking lot.

Police said they tried to “contain the vehicle” during a traffic stop but the driver of the vehicle “intentionally” drove into a cruiser and fled from officers.

Shortly after, officers said they learned the pick-up truck was stolen from a home in Ajax.

Police said they later found the truck parked in the area of Bayly Street East and Burcher Road, and brought the driver into custody.

In a release issued on Tuesday, Durham police said they charged a 16-year-old boy with various offences, including impaired operation, dangerous operation, and two counts of fail to comply with release order. He cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“At the time of his arrest, the accused was on conditions not to operate any motor vehicle,” the release reads.

The charges have not been tested in court.

Investigators are asking with footage or information about the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
