Two people are seriously injured following a head-on collision near Highway 407 Whitby last Friday.
Durham Regional Police said they responded to a two-vehicle collision in the area of Lake Ridge Road and Hwy. 407 at around 2:15 p.m.
Officials say a Hyundai SUV was heading southbound on Lake Ridge Road while a Mitsubishi SUV was exiting the Hwy. 407 off-ramp.
The driver of the Mitsubishi appeared to enter the intersection, police said, which caused the Hyundai to veer out of its lane and drive right into a Dodge minivan that was heading north.
Durham police say the 24-year-old driver of the Hyundai SUV was sent to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.
Two people in the Dodge minivan sustained injuries.
Police said a 77-year-old passenger was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with critical, but non-life-threatening, injuries, while the 69-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The roads were closed for several hours so police could conduct their investigation at the scene.
