A Toronto man is facing charges after police say that he was pulled over in a SUV that was previously reported stolen after it was towed to a fake auto-repair business in Georgina.
Durham Regional Police said they got a report about a white Genesis SUV driving in a dangerous manner at high speeds in Pickering on the afternoon of July 22.
Officers found the SUV parked near Liverpool and Kingston Roads and arrested the driver as he was getting out of the vehicle, police said.
They added that they located a quantity of cocaine in the SUV during a subsequent search.
Police said their investigation determined that “East Side Towing” previously took the SUV to “AutoFix,” which was believed to be an auto repair business in Georgina.
“The vehicle was reported stolen after the owner attended the location for ‘AutoFix’ and discovered the business did not exist,” police said in a news release on Monday.
The driver, 35-year-old Nithoosan Selvakumar, has been charged with dangerous operation, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, obstruct a peace officer, possession of Schedule I substance, drive a motor vehicle with open container liquor and drive a motor vehicle while suspended.
