A 17-year-old boy who was “on weapons prohibition” has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Oshawa last month that left a 20-year-old man seriously injured.
In a news release, Durham police say that officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Ritson Road North and Pentland Street area at around 3 p.m. on June 14.
When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition and has since been upgraded to stable.
Following what police describe as an “extensive investigation,” police arrested a 17-year-old suspect in Bowmanville on Thursday.
Police note the accused was bound by “weapons prohibition conditions” at the time of the shooting.
The accused, who police only identified as an Oshawa teen, cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
He is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm without a licence, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, pointing a firearm and failing to comply with an undertaking.
He was held for a bail hearing.
Police are asking anyone with cellphone, dash camera or surveillance footage to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
