A 20-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a security guard at Pickering Casino Resort was shot and killed in 2023.
Investigators announced last week that an arrest had been made out-of-province in connection with the Oct. 9, 2023 killing of 34- year-old Michael Ferdinand, but released no other details.
The suspect, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting and cannot be named under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant prior to his arrest.
Investigators had previously obtained judicial authority on two occasions late last year to temporarily identify the teen.
On Friday, police revealed the suspect is facing a second-degree murder following his arrest in Saskatoon. He was returned to the custody of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) on July 29.
DRPS said that, in addition to Saskatoon police, officers from Calgary, Vancouver, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were also involved in the investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact them at 1-888-579-1520 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
